adoring putti...{poo-tee}

Putti ...

the definition
from Art History:

those plump little naked boys with wings that one often sees
in Renaissance, Mannerist, Baroque and Rococo art.

Typically, a putto (the singular form) depicts an angel or cherub
in a religious scene, but he may also come in the form of Cupid.
In either case, a putto's presence symbolizes love,
whether Divine or of a more earthly nature.

And they are all around me...I just adore them, always have...

here are some that I own....

and then there are those that I wished I owned...

And I'm always finding ones that I just have to paint! You've probably seen them on my Patisserie signs and Christmas signs... This year I decided to paint a shabby pale aqua Joyeux Noel...(just love this color for Christmas!)

and it just seem to be saying...."add a couple of putti", so I did!

Soon to be in my etsy shop!
Have a wonderful weekend!

they do exist!

Sometimes in blog world you meet people that just make your day!
Not just 'aw, that was nice' kinda make your day but...

'Wow! that was incredible!'
kinda make your day.

I had just that experience when I met Karen.
You see...I was desperately seeking a particular angel image...
I had searched and searched and searched...you get the idea,
when I came across Karen's blog...

The Graphics Fairy!

Karen was sweet to answer my email but even sweeter to come up with

the exact snow angel I had been seeking, like

*poof*

here she is!

I got right to painting her...

she is on ebay now...

I am so thankful for fairies!

{the anatomy of a sign}

thought it would be fun to share with you my creative process...

every year I get the urge to paint one of my favorites for
Halloween,
a vintage postcard sign, here is one from last year (sold on ebay):

this year I've created this gal below, and I just love how she came out!

she is listed on ebay now {click here}
but before you go check out my little
'anatomy of a sign' process:
in the begining....

After several layers of background color are applied
to the board and, are completely dry,
the design is lightly sketched in.
then, basecoating the basic colors onto the design, (the boring part!)...

now for some fun!
adding details and shading. sometimes
getting a little tedious, I switch to the
letters...

more and more shading and highlighting and
more details bringing her to life!

she's finally ready for some distressing & a coat of wax!

Viola!

I'm just pleased as punch with her...if she isn't found by the right person, I know just where she'll go!
Happy October!
