You may have noticed, or you may not have,
I'm a bit of a
'quotaholic'
(a word that is not even in the dictionary, yet.)
On this day in 1963 we lost a man who not only inspired a nation to
look foward,
but spoke so eloquently about it that we commit his words to memory.
I grew up with his portrait hanging on the wall of my parents home, often gazing at it in awe of his handsomeness, never knowing till many years later why my mother had so proudly hung this man's picture.
Every year, at many Thanksgiving gatherings around the country, his words are repeated as families and friends offer a toast or a prayer
before they share their meal.
They are as meaningful today as they were then.

So take this toast with you on Thursady, wherever you gather with those you love...
my Thanksgiving gift to you, so to speak.
Oh, and two weeks later? I was born.

A great way to remember JFK's legacy.
ReplyDeleteI was born six months later and have been intrigued by The Kennedy Family my whole life.
Let me be the first to wish you an early Happy Birthday!!
Love your new header.... and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
So your family experienced a tragedy and then a blessing! I was a junior in high school on that day and, of course, it is a day I will never forget. I can actually remember the announcement on the PA system that he had been shot and then we changed classes and, before the end of the class -- another announcement. I'll never forget the look on my teacher's face when he heard it. The day of President Kennedy's funeral was the first time I ever saw my father cry. Makes me cry to think about it . . .

ReplyDeleteYou're but a youngster, so let this old lady tell you that grown-ups everywhere were openly crying. It was disconcerting for this first grader because I had no clue how great that handsome, handsome man who had kids my own age was!
Thank you for this post and for giving me the privilege and pleasure of getting to know you!
Thank you for a touching post and wonderful reminder of how blessed we are by each other.
ReplyDeleteI was in the first grade that day & came home to find my mom crying at the t.v. so sad & I started crying. Although not a big kennedy fan, they certainly sacrificed & had many tragedies. I admire Rose kennedy for her devout faith that saw her thru these terrible things. On a happy note HAPPY BIRTHDAY paula!! Many more happy & healthy years! xo chris p.s. thanks for leaving the sweet note on my blog!:)
ReplyDeleteWonderful words of wisdom! Great post! Thanks so much for sharing and have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING and BIRTHDAY! Coralie
