It's beginning to look a little like Christmas...

In the studio!

yes, I've been painting Christmas signs...but look closer...
no, closer....

It's mistletoe!
Fresh mistletoe, picked fresh last week by my son...the arborist!
I had no idea that mistletoe grew around here...

and no idea where it grew exactly.
Turns out mistletoe grows 'on' trees!
The tree is it's 'host'...it feeds off it.

It arrives there from birds dropping the sticky berries on it's branches. I was amazed to learn this!

Now, on November 1st....there's fresh mistletoe around the house!!

...if it is too early for Christmas decor well it's certainly not too early for smooching right?

A big thankyou to all for leaving me great advice on my Saturday post...we've decided the best thing to do is go with 'no driving'. I am approaching it like....we are starting over, at square one, with the learning to drive thing. I really think kids are allowed to drive too young, especially with all the hand held gadgets they try to juggle. I was very touched by everyone's comments and they were very helpful in figuring out what to do...thankyou all from the bottom of my heart:)

Love your signs!! I has no idea where mistletoe came from either, very interesting!
I missed your last post but I agree with you, I think kids are able to drive too young. There are so many more distractions now with cell phones, texting and so on. I told my hubby that our daughter will probably not be driving at 16, they are still babies! :) Good luck!

Love your mistletoe, Paula! I actually did know this and have some on a couple of trees in my yard. It's actually pretty high up, so I don't think I'll be cutting fresh ~ I'll probably just hang my faux one again this year! :)

Awww, now how are you going to get any work done with all that 'smooching' in the studio? The Christmas signs look amazing.

Your Christmas signs are awesome, you do such beautiful work. I love the old fashioned lettering. Very interesting fact about the mistletoe--wish I could find some!

I love your signs.
When we lived in San Antonio, we saw the trees with Mistletoe growing on them and thought that was just the coolest thing ever. Then we found out it is like a cancer and kills the trees. Some trees are just loaded with it. When my father in law came to visit from CO, we cut bags of it down (a lot of it had beautiful white berries on it) and he took it back with him and sold it to florists. They loved it and you couldn't find it any fresher!!!! Love your post and can't wait to see more signs, Char

It's never too early for smooching and looks like no one around your place will have an excuse for not participating. Your signs are wonderful. Ah, Christmas! I love it!

And I'm so glad that you're feeling better about the decision you made regarding your daughter. It's all for love, girlie.....

love, love, love the Christmas vignette, Paula. Did you know that, not only does mistletoe grow abundantly here, the way they used to get down from the tall trees was to shoot it down with a shotgun? Some still do it that way. Pinkie swear.

Hi Paula, You make the best signs ever and I love the Christmas ones! I have never noticed mistletoe growing in trees but now I will be looking for it. I usually buy mine in a little sealed plastic bag.
